In the mid-1800s, politicians and celebrities, wealthy folks and working people eagerly posed for portraits made with a remarkable new technology: daguerreotype. In this Fine Arts Society program, Jane Aspinwall, Associate Curator of Photography at Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, will discuss the process and highlight the daguerreotype masterpieces in the Nelson-Atkins’ collection. Social time at 9:30 a.m. Presentation begins at 10:00 a.m. Peoria Riverfront Museum, lower-level auditorium.
