Fine Arts Society Program

March 8, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

In the mid-1800s, politicians and celebrities, wealthy folks and working people eagerly posed for portraits made with a remarkable new technology: daguerreotype. In this Fine Arts Society program, Jane Aspinwall, Associate Curator of Photography at Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, will discuss the process and highlight the daguerreotype masterpieces in the Nelson-Atkins’ collection. Social time at 9:30 a.m. Presentation begins at 10:00 a.m. Peoria Riverfront Museum, lower-level auditorium. Admission: $12 for adults and $5 for students. To learn more, visit www.FineArtsSociety.net.

Get Fresh Chef Challenge
Get Fresh Chef Challenge

Gifts in the Moment Foundation (GITM) is excited to announce our 2nd Annual Get Fresh Chef Challenge, a very special evening that will feature the area's best chefs competing for both People's Choice (chosen by guests) and Judge's Choice (chosen by a select panel of judges). The event will benefit a very important cause in Central Illinois: GITM's Good Food Recovery program.

One family out of every six in Central Illinois does not know where their next meal is coming from, while 40% of food in the U.S. is wasted, often ending up in a landfill. Good Food Recovery, "The Uber for Food," is the solution. Good Food Recovery improves the availability of healthy food alternatives to food banks, food pantries and kitchens through donated fresh vegetables, fruit and prepared meals. Recovering unsold, surplus food is easy with Good Food Recovery’s Web application called ChowMatch, which matches food donations with hunger relief organizations and volunteer food runners for transportation.

Chefs will be challenged to create small plates using at least one locally-grown ingredient (grown within 100 miles of Peoria), and winners will be chosen by both guests and judges. Winner announcements and a celebration toast will follow with champagne and live media coverage.

Eugene Daniel of WMBD will be our emcee for the evening. He will be introducing the chefs and their dishes, and Eugene will also host a LIVE auction featuring some amazing prizes, such as private chef dinners.

Seating will be available but not guaranteed for every attendee. Interested in reserving or sponsoring a seated table for eight (which includes 2 bottles of wine and/or champagne)? Reserve your table here.
