Carmen McCarthy: Self Stigma Sucks! at the Broadway Deli & Lounge
Carmen McCarthy: Self Stigma Sucks! at the Broadway Deli & Lounge

The Broadway Lounge is very proud to present a very special cabaret performance on January 21st and 22nd - Carmen McCarthy: Self Stigma Sucks! Seating begins at 6p and the show starts at 7:30p each night. Cost is $15 plus a required 2 item minimum purchase per person (with at least 1 food item). Admissions on sale now!

Mental health is something everyone deals with at some point, whether they admit it or not. But the stigma of getting help to deal with this little thing called life is still surprisingly stigmatized. WTF.

Carmen uses humor and storytelling with music to share her journey and anonymous stories of others to help normalize getting the help we all need at various points in our lives. Will this show change things overnight? Probably not. Will get people thinking and start conversations? Hells yes.

Carmen McCarthy is known for her versatility with musical styles and powerful performances. She has been singing professionally for over 25 years, performing as a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus, countless musical theatre productions, a soloist with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra with Ashley Brown (Broadway’s original Mary Poppins), a featured performer in several of Bart Shatto’s cabarets, and as the female vocalist for JC and The Redemption, a local soul/funk/stax band. Her favorite audience though will always be her five nephews.

This show, subject matter, and at times language is intended for adults. Approximate run time is 75 minutes.

Home Sweet Home: Shahrbanoo Hamzeh
January 7 – February 19
Preston Jackson Gallery

Exploring what occurs behind closed doors in melancholy but colorful paintings, Iranian artist Shahrbanoo Hamzeh suggests that our bodies, domestic spaces and home countries function as three parallel homes on different levels. Seeing parallels between the levels makes the suffering of displacement tangible.

Roger Bean & Chuck Flagg
January 7 – February 19
Gallery 3R

From an early age, both Roger and Chuck took an interest in alternative photographic processes. Chuck was attracted to analog processes, like pinhole cameras. Roger worked most often with digital processes and print manipulation, like toning and dye transfers. Roger and Chuck met in 1969 as student and teacher respectively at IVC High School. Over the next 40 years, they developed a great friendship. This effort is their third collaborative exhibition.
