Florida’s first African-American nominee for governor Andrew Gillum will be the keynote address at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Luncheon to be held January 20, 2020 at the Peoria Civic Center.  Doors open at 11:00am, and Gillum will give the keynote address at 12 noon.  The luncheon is hosted by the City of Peoria’s Public Employees for Community Concerns. The group consists of African American city employees who joined together to try to enlighten the community.  Luncheon tickets are $50 per person and tables of 10 can be purchased for $500. Tickets can be purchased on our website at www.mlkluncheon.com or at Peoria City Hall, City Clerk’s Office, Room 401.

 

Following his run for governor, Gillum was honored as one of the Ebony Power 100 and named a 2019 Resident Fellow at the Institute of Politics (IOP) at Harvard Kennedy School. FamilyCore will be hosting the 21th Annual Frosty 5K and Dog Walk! Proceeds from this event will benefit programs and clients of FamilyCore.

The racecourse is 3.1 miles. The walk is a 1 mile course along the Peoria riverfront and walking path. Dogs are welcomed on the run and walk, but must remain on a leash.

The race starts at 9:00 am in front of RC Outfitters (311 SW Water Street, Peoria, IL) on the running path. Walkers and dog walkers start immediately after the runners. Everyone finishes up at the Gateway Building (200 NE Water Street, Peoria, IL) for prizes, race awards, food, hot chocolate, water, and other goodies.

Everyone who registers by Sunday, January 12th, 2020 will get a shirt before the race. Those who register after January 12th may not receive a shirt in the desired size.

Entry fee for family (3 members): $80
Entry fee for walkers: $30

Packet pickup: At RC Outfitters on Friday, January 24th between 11 am and 6 pm, and also Saturday morning January 25th between 8 am and 8:50 am.

9:05 am - Walkers and dog walkers begin on the Riverfront in front of RC Outfitters

 

In this class we work on finding calm in the chaos through a balanced practice of breath work and meditation that gently flows into fast paced asana work. Set to a fun playlist, this class will rejuvenate and relax you. We finish off the evening with snacks, wine (or tea), and great conversation. Come enjoy the night out you deserve!!
