  • Spend an hour or an afternoon exploring the Caterpillar Visitors Center. Take a virtual ride in a Cat(R) 797 mining truck.  Unleash your inner engineer and design your very own Cat machine.  Hop onto a simulator and see what its like to operate equipment the way real-life operators do. Tours are designed to be self-guided and take 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Visit us Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm with the last entry at 3:30pm.   • Peoria Historical Society's River City Tour winds along Grandview Drive and takes place every Friday in June beginning at 11 am.  Their Roll Out the Barrel Tour takes you through the earliest sections of downtown Peoria and into the Warehouse District where you'll discover facts abut distilling in Peoria running every Saturday in June at 11 am (except June 10).  And the Naughty to Nice Tour every Saturday in June beginning at 1:30 pm (except for the 10th) traces triumph through time from the 1920's to the present including stories of the city's gangster era, including driving by the site of Peoria's most notorious crime scene, the Bernie Shelton murder.  All tours depart from the Peoria Riverfront Museum.  Tickets are $15 and are available by calling 309-686-7000 or online at www.peoriariverfrontmuseum.org.  For more information, call 309-674-1921 or visit www.peoriahistoricalsociety.org
